What has been the attributing factors to the Wildcat making its way into the NFL?
Who else was running it last season other then Miami?
I will tell you one thing it sure sticks out in the midst of all those traditional plays doesn't it!
Did I catch a comment that some people affiliated with the NFL think its "Bush League" ? ? ?

What has been the attributing factors to the Wildcat making its way into the NFL? Over specialization. Both in players and in coaching. NFL defense are predicated on only seeing the same 5 basic running plays.

What has been the attributing factors to the Wildcat making its way into the NFL? Who else was running it last season other then Miami? A decade ago, the Ravens had a terrific defense and a terrifically poor offense. They tried everything, and AFAIK they were responsible for popularizing such plays in the NFL. As their offense improved, they kept them in the playbook.

The NFL is not in we dont want publicity business. their not the nba and mlb only wanting major market rating and major market teams to succeed. Read this sentence aloud and tell me if it sounds like it was properly constructed. Seriously, if you are an overseas guy, I will apologize.

From their Wildcat... Cisar has completely let the cat out of the bag! I hear that theologins have interpreted an obscure passage from Revelation to signify that the success of the Wildcat to be a sign of the apocolypse. Something about "the anti-christ will be born of a Wildcat in the AFC East." Be afraid!!!!

I'm not seeing the big deal with that play. Ronnie Brown was dropped for no gain after the second fake (spin) handoff. Does the excitment stem from the fact that they attempted the play?

Ugh... I am a huge Miami Dolphin fan and I am sick of hearing about the WILDCAT!!! Last time I checked, they are running Jet Sweep, Power, Counter, IZ, OZ, with one more blocker and a reduced passing game.
Like Billy Mountainhappy says, if everyone ran the same offense, it would be 50/50 offense. Give it the ol' Bud Foster Cowboy pressure and see what it does, especially if the QB can't throw. Ask UVA about putting their Corner in at QB vs. them worked..
P.S. Who said misdirection wouldn't work in the NFL? I've seen Counter Trey, Reverses, Iso w/ a fake reverse, since I can remember. I think what people said was that people would catch up to it (assuming it would stay the same). The Fins are smart though, they keep adding to the package. But you can't universally claim something to work or not work based on a few incidents.

"The option doesn't work in the NFL!"
"The Wing T doesn't work in the NFL!"
"The Spinner/Ozzy Osborne/Fly Sweep Triple Reverse doesn't work in the NFL!"
Honestly, even if you are an offensive afficiado; most of us (all of us...) are high school football coaches.
This board, more often than not, has a great "coaching" feel to it; the "fan" perspective is nice sometimes, but it gets out of hand. Is the Wilcat scheme being run at the NFL really going to be an epiphany to any of us? A lot of us have been running misdirection off of the fly sweep at the HS level for years; whether it's under center, in the pistol or in the shotgun. Whether it's being run at the NFL level is irrelevant; college and hs coaches have been running non-NFL schemes successfully for a very long time.
Honestly, most of the current trends in college football started with college OCs that were more high school minded than NFL minded.

I think it comes down to a few things 1) Its fun to see: So much fo the NFL is about match ups and how to get them. Many of us watch it more because it is the best athletes playing at the highest level. So many NFL teams look the same in many ways. It was one reason the Rams use to be so fun to watch because of the type of stuff they would do. Its just fun to see a team do something different with such great players.
2) I told you so: The other part is we like to say we told you so. Much of what we do we feel would work in the NFL if it was just given the chance. How many on this board go full speed no huddle and yet how few NFL teams do. We like the idea that if a team with such great talent would just be willing to take a risk and try some stuff it would work.
Now the Wing T is alive a well in the NFL and even more so in older film. Much of what wing t teams do the 49ers under Walsh did in the run game. You see teams showing zone read and option though I am not seeing anyone pull the ball right now.
With the limited numbers on a roster and a week to get ready when you can do some different stuff it can be a PITA.
