Sometimes threads on here have to be thrown out and people wonder why. I thought I'd post an explanation about why this happens.
When Huey and Tog started this site they had a philosophy. All of the moderators agree wholeheartedly with this philosophy. They want this site to be purely dedicated to coaching football. They had seen other good football coaching sites ruined because they were overgrown with threads on non-coaching subjects. To keep that from happening there are certain subjects that are not allowed and are subject to removal:
1. Spam. If you want to sell stuff buy an ad. There's nothing more
boring than a board loaded with posts from guys trying to drum
up business for themselves. That's one reason that access to
some sections, such as the Technology board, is restricted. We
just saw too many messages from guys with single-digit posts
"asking" for info about the new wonder product that they've
just heard about.
2. Trading/selling. This gets particularly sensitive because of
copyright issues. In addition, there actually MAY be something
more boring than spam- message after message all asking for
somebody to send you a copy of something. Don't blatantly
ask for trade materials and please use Private Messages to set
up any private deals.
3. Politics and religion. It's just not what we're here for. This can
get dicey because there certainly are questions with poilitcal/
religious undertones that are valid points for coaching
discussion. Fine. Discuss them. When they start getting too
partisan or too philosophical we'll probably dump them, though.
4. Fan stuff/gossip. There are a lot of sites where you can say
"Roll Tide" or talk about who allegedly got caught chasing
cheerleaders. This isn't one of them.
5. Non football-related "fun stuff". I like a joke as much as the
next guy. We just don't want the football talk crowded out by
jokes, movie talk, and other such.
6. Personal attacks/arguments. Look, it happens. It's happened
to me. We've seen good boards ruined by cat fights, though,
so don't do it. If you really need to get into it with somebody
them use PMs (I'll try to remember that myself).
Frequently the original post in a thread does not violate these principles. I hate to have to toss out a worthwhile thread that got sidetracked. I had to do it yesterday and it's annoying. Keep that in mind when you type in a response. Normally somebody will post a reminder trying to get the thread back on track. Please heed these reminders.
That ends the rant.
