We just found out our backup qb has mono. Any coach ever deal with that? Curious on timetable, etc.

Time table varies person to person, but I've never seen it be less than 3-4 weeks. Could be months if it's real severe.

Dealing with it now, our best defensive player. They say a few weeks at minimum. He sat about a week and a half doing nothing, went back to the doctor and was actually cleared to play last night. Has to go back to doctor every week or maybe two weeks to make sure he's still good to go. Little fatigued last night, but his game didnt suffer. Still played well. Apparently, from what I'm hearing, as long as his spleen doesnt swell he will stay cleared.

My daughter had it over a year and a half ago going into her senior year. They can have extreme flair ups from time to time depending on the stress level of the kid. Several times she had to be hospitalized because of the extreme pain in her throat and they finally found a combination of drugs that would help De-Flare it. Be easy on the kid, it can be 3-4 weeks like the above posters said before they recover, but it's something that never goes away and sticks with you.

Had it when I was a junior in HS 27 years ago-thankfully two weeks after football-(December. Returned to take my finals for a week-failed all of them and got a 1.7 GPA for the quarter which shot my GPA for the rest of high school. Didn't return to school full time until February-almost didn't pass my junior year because of it. Granted-that was very severe. It would probably have knocked me out for the whole season had I gotten it a few months earlier. At the minimum its 4-6 weeks before he is cleared to play. Get another QB ready and hope he gets better.

I had a player my first year get it and he only missed one game. So I guess your mileage may vary. Had another guy get it in december and he lost 30 lbs.
