Just heard Mike Cooper of Clovis HS (CA) and Gunter Brewer of UNC. Cooper had the most energy of I've ever seen from a clinic speaker. It was fantastic. Brewer was extremely entertaining.

I have always thought Kerry Coombs from Ohio State was the best speaker I have seen. Saw him at the Glazier Cincy when he was with Cincinnati talking on DB's, next year at OHSCA in Columbus on ST, both times he was off the charts with energy and great info. Saw him last year and you could tell he was in a hurry, but still a terrific clinic speaker. One of the best bets is to find a guy who isn't the marquee coach. Did this a couple of years ago with a Big Ten coach. When he was done, Brady Hoke was speaking in the main room, and we were leaving one of the smaller conference rooms. Somebody asked him another question and he asked if anybody wanted to stick around and do some chalk talk type of stuff. About 5 or 6 of us stayed and for an hour and a half we had one of the more informative classroom sessions I have ever been involved in. He would have us draw up how we covered certain things, everybody would chime in...it was great. Coach Hoke is one of the more humble guys you could meet, and keeps an open door. Ron Rivera was excellent, and stayed after for a couple hours with another coach and I talking defense and having some good back and forth. Dave Aranda is awesome, and there is a reason his players call him the "Professor." Better be on point if you're going to sit in with him. Tony Gibson was excellent when he was a DB coach at Michigan. Rocky Long is very good also.

I spent 5 sessions with him in Charlotte. We are diving head first into 425 and wanted to validate all we are doing and tweaking aspects that we need to. For me, extremely informative. He will send all the hudl presentations to you via email as long as you provide $20 which will go to Autism research (son is autistic). Totally worth it alone, nice to feel as though you are helping a cause as well. He has spent great amounts of time with Patterson in numerous off seasons, so if you are familiar with TCU, he runs similar scheme with same terminology. I enjoyed it. He is not going to hide anything or give you anything vanilla. He is a down to earth college coach. Hope this helps and enjoy if you plan on sitting in! It will be his third consecutive week; before Charlotte he was in Chicago.

Couple guys I've seen previously and recently I liked:
Ron English (former Eastern Mich) was the best at showing drills and explaining exactly how that drill fit into their specific system (talked about DB technique)
Mazzone... a clinic legend
Guy Holliday (BYU WR Coach) Energy... tons of energy
Tony Levine (Former Houston HC) wasn't the most charismatic speaker but he probably gave the most insight into the specifics of what they do (air raid, no huddle communication, signals etc)... maybe because he's no longer working for U of H.
My favorite all time clinic presenter was Jerry Kill, for not only his energy but how he taught his topic as if he was installing it on the field with his team.

Really not trying to hijack the thread whatsoever. BUT - I have to ask. mariner42 or Chris Clement, do either of you recall the thread quoted in Mariner's signature line thing? I've gotta ask after wondering about the context of it about 100 times. Back to clinic speakers...

Some guy in the defense section was posting about running a 3-3 with cover 0 all the time and then mentioned that they had 7 D1 signees on defense. Chris summed up everyone's thoughts rather succinctly.

One that I have heard a few times that was extremely good every time is Kyle Richardson HC at Northwestern HS in Rock Hill SC. He is an Air Raid guy and I am a defensive guy who us often looking to learn more about the passing game and QB play. He doesnt try to talk about too much of his O. He picks a segment to talk about and really takes the time to teach it in a way that is easy to understand. He does a great job of showing it on the board and walking you through it and then showing it to you on film. Also, interesting and a good speaker.

OK, giving away my age. Buck Nystrom was by far THE BEST clinic speaker I ever saw. You dare didn't sit in the front row of one of his talks! But…lately I had given up on attending clinics until this past weekend. Much to my dismay…I found nothing much had changed. New places, new faces, but the S.O.S. Large school HS guys who don't teach, have 10 paid VARSITY assistants who teach a few PE classes, indoor facilities, on-campus stadiums, 5,000 sq. ft. weight rooms, athletic periods, 200 kids in the program, strictly two-platoon, a budget most D3 schools would kill for, and administrators willing to pay for it all, speaking to mostly large school HS guys with the same resources. I've coached in small high schools for most of my career so I can honestly say I have nothing in common with those guys except the title "football coach". OR, it's been a clinic with the major college guys speaking to everybody and trying hard to sell their own programs (which most of us can't identify with any way!). One of these days one of these big national clinics will start showing some love to those of us who truly know what it's like to be a high school football coach. Try a Glazier clinic. There are plenty of small school speakers over the years at these. The clinic I attended was a Glazier Clinic. May try another one in a different state to see if what you say is true.

David Wilkerson-South Panola HS. Not sure if he is still there, but in 2010 I saw him and thought he was entertaining and had very good content. I ended up sitting in on all 6 of his talks.
Don Brown-Asst. HC/DC Boston College. This is a sentimental favorite for me as I played for Coach Brown in college. I've never had a coach at any level understand how to motivate me more effectively. He is also a great defensive mind.

We sat thru all of his 4 years ago just to listen to him, he didn't run anything close to what we ran and we really didn't get much football info out of it cause honestly, we were laughing so hard. If you get a chance, see this guy and bring popcorn.

I agree with a previous post on Jerry Campbell. A common criticism of his is that while he seems to be an expert in many areas, his teams don't win many games. To me, that doesn't mean you can't still take a way a lot of info from his talks.
Also, for those of you in the midwest, current Illinois College HC/OC Garrett Campbell is a great speaker on both offensive philosophy and program building ideas that are also very applicable to the high school setting.

Blaise Winter is awesome for defensive line. I need to echo the front row comment. He will beat the daylights out of someone when he demonstrates. I second this. I was dumb enough to sit in the front row several years back at one of his sessions, after someone dared me to do it. I served as a tackling dummy/ punching bag for an hour, and I learned a valuable lesson. EDIT: Also had my head coach do a similar thing at an OL clinic several years back. Not much I could do to get out of it that time.

When I was a GA I was responsible for getting Buck from the airport, getting him settled into the hotel and then making sure all the AV stuff worked the next day. I had to sit in the front and change the overheads he was using...speaking of giving away your age...needless to say the overhead made it into session 2 before he used me as a blocking dummy and sent me flying into that thing busting the lamp. Great memories.

Over the last 10 years, regardless of what system I am running now, here is some of the best speakers I have heard
Chuck Martin- now the HC at Miami Ohio
Paul Connor- Wing T offensive line coach
Kerry Coombs- DB / Special Teams Cord. at Ohio State
Jim McNally- longtime NFL offensive line coach
Paul Alexander- another NFL offensive line coach, a great teacher of the game
Randy Bates- Northwestern LB coach
Larry Johnson- D-Line coach at Ohio State

Scott Smith was an awesome speaker about 10 years ago. Great info and very entertaining. I agree. As as far as sitting up front watch out when with Slack. I about got hit in the face about 5 times while he was demonstrating and he told me my hoodie was going to cause cancer. (The second part was a joke he used to prove a point)

Anyone seen Dave Wiemers from Pittsburg State? I spent a lot of time listening to him last weekend in Vegas. Pretty solid down to earth coach. I like any coach who says this is what we do, WHY we do it and says it may not work for everyone in every situation. He was very TCUish and made no bones about it. He is an offensive guy who has since transitioned to defense. And the bit about Autism was cool. Had I had any money left, I would have donated... Vegas.

I agree with the poster who named Jerry Kill. Might be the most informative I've heard. I've never seen a head coach go through every position group (oline, backs, receivers, dline, lbs, dbs, ko, Kor, punt, punt ret--all of it) and gave you something useful in each area.

Tim Belmore of the University of Mary was very good at their clinic....energetic, on point- usable information that was based on evidence with film that backed everything up.

Had a chance to go to the University of Minnesota with our QB for a junior day visit ... Jerry Kill and his staff are the real deal. Best quote of the day was from Coach Kill and it is found right outside their enormous locker room (25 yards wide, 60 yards long) ... I HEAR WHAT YOU SAY, BUT I TRUST WHAT YOU DO!

I would listen to Chuck Martin tell me about the dump he took this morning. He's awesome.
Jerry Kill is another very, very good one.
Blaise Winter- very good speaker, but PSYCHO!
Murphy seemed more interested in selling crap, telling you how awesome he was and basically self promoting. Good info, but spent 20 mins pumping (literally) himself up. His wife was hot though in a don't get her too close to the flame, she might melt kind of way.
The kid from Western Michigan was really good.

After attending the Boston Glazier clinic I have a new favorite speaker. Wes Owens, of Western Ct. State was great. His presentation was clear, informative, and well supported with his diagrams and video.

Best Speakers I have seen:
1. Larry Johnson - OSU (great passion, good technique, has great drills) 1b Tosh Lupoi - Bama (best Dline technique guy I have ever seen). Concise presenter. 1c Bret Vieselma - used to be HC of Valor Christian
Worst
1. Lenny R - Starts clinic talk off a bunch of F bombs. Some guys leave, as they are leaving calls them wussies etc. Throws up some slides - no Scheme, no intro, and states "you wanna stuff guys run theseb blitzes" and just stands there smiling. The fact that this dude has been a D1 DC is crazy.
Honorable Mention - RS and JC. Serious guys why are people buying what these two are selling? Gang Green 4-2-5? How about 50 alignment. Other times he gives presentations about building programs. Come on. JC runs every front known to man. Never discusses how kids can learn this or the reads. And coaches JV. Ok.
