Coaches, We are always looking to provide a quality product for student body, staff and community with football Friday night. The sadness is that it seems at least for us that less and less of all three parties are attending games for a number of reasons. The opportunity to promote your program as well as having a great fan experience is something we are always looking to develop. Has anyone tried or implemented anything that has been successful? Ideas: Half-time Contests (kicking or passing) with the opportunity to win money, gas cards, or technology. Catered tailgating Bounce houses, games and field experience for youth Fan items - thundersticks, shakers, etc. Theme - color, category, etc. Raffle - field seats, press box seats, game experience. Thoughts? Have a future (mascot name) club for youth kids. Setup 2 fields, 4 teams and let them play at half time. Kids get pumped for that. Parents and fans enjoy watching it.

Thoughts? All work if you have a strong booster program. They help manage this stuff while you focus on winning Friday night. We are implementing elementary and middle schools night. Students at these schools get in free wearing their school t shirt. We will have halftime showcases by the youth football and middle school programs. We are also looking into Midnight Yell / March Madness event for our first full pad practice in August. Also show people you care about their activities when it is your offseason and they will show up more in my experience.

Somebody mentioned fan experience and half time stuff to get more kids to play ? What ever kids aren't going to play cause something cool happens at the half while thy are in the lockeroom Maybe more butts in the seats but more playing , no.
More kids Will Play if they have a sense of belonging, a family atmosphere, direction, things like that. An winning
And winning puts butts in the seats , but a the same Time Adm will say nope coach "we don't care if that's a good win for the team, u need to schedule so and so that went 3 deep in the playoffs in a bigger class , cause we need a good gate"

Our band plays at halftime. And half our fans are there for that, so it works out I guess.

Wow it must be a blast playing for some of the "real positive" coaches on this thread. How about a meeting with Admin and QB club and form a plan to increase gate by 20% and get people invested in your program in different ways other than complaining. Admin would love a plan for more gate. A few we have done 1- Senior night at halftime for other fall sports that dont get crowds, Cheer..Cross country, band etc. 2 - QB club puts on a pregame Kids fun night with small make shift games like all the elem schools do for fundraisers. (kids under 10 get into game free parents dont) 3 - Youth football night where youth players get to go through varsity run through behind all the varsity players, and are recognized at half. They all wear their Jerseys and get in free with a jersey on. (youth league organizes this) 4- Athletic hall of Fame night - AD and admin set this up and recognize a few people each year at halftime of a game 5 - Homecoming on worst expected gate night 6 - QB clubs brings out huge grill with lots of meat and smoke to make money 7 - Youth Cheerleaders have a game where they get t be with the varsity cheerleaders on the sidelines (cheer sets this up in conjunction with summer camp they do). We have tried several things some work some dont

I"m seeing a lot of posts suggesting activities to be run by the booster club. I don't want to put words in his mouth but I'm thinking that if the OP had a strong booster club he wouldn't have made the OP in the first place.

Not really, not speaking for the OP, but he was just looking for suggestions. I don't think it has to be a booster club that does all of these either, seems more to me to be on the AD and some of the other "clubs". Why not make this a year around thing and have coaches from other sports get involved in some other programs for a change. Hopefully that desn't bring out the bashing of "I already do so much!", but would it hurt a baseball coach do help out on a friday night. And would it kill a football coach to do one thing at a basketball game. Just sayin'.

And would it kill a football coach to do one thing at a basketball game. Just sayin'. I can't speak for other states but here there are no off-season coaches because there is no offseason. It couldn't hurt to ask, I guess, but I wouldn't depend on it.

DO you mean the coaches are not under contract once their season is over, or are you speaking of off season workouts and the like?

At the school I just left, there are plenty of coaches who enjoy an off season, as in you won't see them unitl next year. So yeah, those clowns wouldn't help out with anything. Some pretty good ideas on this thread.
