The thing that gets me is that these people committing suicide, at least Junior Seau, was taking illegal performance enhancing drugs. I would like to see if they can look into how drugs/steroids impact the brain, especially after receiving a concussion. Maybe it's nothing, but I have yet to even see that mentioned. To me it seems to large a variable to leave out.

Almost everything law, rule being passed is going to end up with unintended consequences, and because of the rules not football.

I also have thought that a lot of the players showing signs of CTE had problems with recreational drugs/alcohol (Tony Dorsett, Jim McMahon, etc.).

"Recreational" drugs like cocaine, Ecstasy, and Spice can't be real helpful to the wiring.

There are other factors that contribute to depression-suicide in ex-NFL players, too - no longer being in the limelight, the loss of relationships-camaraderie (locker room), loss of income, failure in business, divorce.
Shortly after Seau and Deurson killed themselves there was study published on Slate that showed the suicide rate for NFL players was lower than the general public and life expectancy was higher.
