So I just wanted to say this has to be the worst thread ever started. I read through all of these and it brought back some deep hidden repressed memories. Now I won't sleep. Thanks a lot whoever started this. Dear moderator please delete this thread. On the plus side, I guess this is some kind of therapy but damn it hurts.

I have another one.
Regular season game 2010 - we are tied 24-24 in the fourth. They are driving with time running out. I give the signal for 5 under 3 deep zone and slant strong for the line.
Some how, my corner gets mixed up and goes man on #1. They run smash. He charges the curl, the QB throws the fade over his head.. The corner recovers makes the tackle... And it looks great only about a 25 yard gain. But then.... In frustration, he kicks the reciever in the ribs..in full view of the refs and the opps bench. 15 yarder and ejection.
With about a minute left they are on our 20. Throw the same concept, 2nd string corner stinks it up and gets out run...TD catch.
They win because of a dumb mistake made by an emotional kid...

2005, It's my 3rd year as a HFC. I'm at a school that hadn't been to play offs in 15 years and only once in 40 years. No play off win in school history (I sure know how to pick 'em).
Anyway, we are 1-0 going into week 2 pulling off a big upset. Week 2 half time we are up 38-19 at half (defensive struggle, both defenses are struggling:).
2nd half, we turn the ball over 4 series in a row. Next thing I know we got 4 minutes left and we are DOWN 38-46. Against all odds we pull it together and drive the field & score with 25 seconds left. Go for 2 and get it to tie it up at 46. We kick off, stuff them. Get them to 3rd and long with about 10 seconds left deep in their own territory. They throw a drag route I have 2 guys converging to make the tackle & send the game to over time. Both players collide with each other & take each other out. Kid takes it to the house with time expired and we lose.
Missed the play offs by one game that year.
On a high note, we made the play offs for the 1st time the following year and won (still) the only play off game in school history. But 2005 was brutal.

The most bitter was a game I played in my senior year. It was our arch rival and we hadn't beaten them in 9 years--they were very cocky about that. At halftime we were up 20-7 after a missed extra point. In the second half our "stud" TB decided to do the Marcus Allen reverse field thing on every carry. We were losing 10-20 yards a clip on Power and Toss Sweep and eventually lost 21-20. That one will always hurt.
As a coach, the one that hurt the worst was our playoff loss this year. We ran for 520 yards and still lost because of 2 turnovers that got ran in for scores and a snap that went over the punter's head. Also, our defense couldn't stop them from throwing vertical down the seem and we kept shooting ourselves in the foot with stupid personal fouls.
We also had a game this season where a team who hadn't beat us in their 40 year history blew us out because a bunch of key senior starters smoked pot before the game and couldn't even remember which way to go up front. Then they blamed us, the coaches and play calling, for that loss.

Double crappy flash back. Lost in 2011 Semi-final game (our school hasn't been in a championship game since 1949). They kicked a field goal with 4 seconds left from 41 yards. Kid had never attempted a FG before EVER! Drilled it. We had scored with 49 seconds left to go ahead by 2 and had missed the 2 point conversion.
We had been called for an illegal substitution on the last play of the 1st half...negated a score. After the game the white hat comes over and says he is sorry it shouldn't have been a penalty..WTF.
Flash forward to this season and we have the same crew with a different white hat...same ref calls illegal substitution costing us a 1st half score. The head linesmen comes across the field and says just like in 2011, we got it right that day too. (We won this year but it was much closer than it should have been.)

Im going to go out on the limb and say this is not the first game they smoked pot before a game...just probably the first time it backfired on them

2013 we're playing in the quarterfinals against a team I knew would be a tough match up for us with the possibility next week of playing a way better match up in the semis for a chance to get MURDERED in the state championship. We take the ball to start the game and go 50+yds on the first three plays of the game. Play 4 was second down, we run power to our TB who was a 2000 yd rusher with ZERO fumbles on the year to that point. TE does nothing, TB just flat drops the ball and we turn it over. Fumbled 4 or 5 times (I don't know because I've never watched this game again) and lost 3 of them the rest of the game. Lost 21-12 at home. The team we lose to goes on to lead 28-7 with like 5 mins in the 4th and lose 32-28 in the semis.
Took me an entire season to sort of drag myself out of the hole that game caused.

2003 I was in high school and we played in the State Championship. It ended up going into triple OT and being the longest state championship game in Texas history. We came back in the final minutes to tie the game and put it into OT, had a chance in the first over time to win with an easy chip shot of a field goal. Our kicker misses of course and they go onto win in the 3rd OT. It would have been our third state title in a row and at the time, tie the record for most state championships in a row in the history of Texas. That one still pisses me off to this day.
Fast forward 12 years, our DC at the school I'm coaching at now was the secondary coach for that team that beat us. Got to see the ring they got that year they beat us a few weeks ago. Ouch.

My first year coaching we were up 32-7 at halftime and lost 35-32 don't remember the details, but I remember a valuable lesson, It's better to have a slower kid returning kickoffs that NEVER fumbles, than the fumble-prone guy that is the fastest kid on the team...he lost three of them...three

2010 Quarter-Finals. Turned the ball over 4 times inside the 10, two of those inside the 5. Last one was a slant from the 9, WR wide open, ball deflects off his hands and right into the hands of a safety behind him. That was with 30 seconds left.
We lost 14-11.
The team we lost to went on to win it all.
Should-a...Could-a...Would-a...

2012 state championship game. The team we had been playing had been there 5 years straight, we had most of our guys playing 2 way and we were tied at 22-22 at half. They just ended up onside kicking it the whole 2nd half and holding on to the ball and there was nothing we could do to stop them.

2006 - 2nd round of playoffs. Lose 26-20 to the eventual state champs. You can't win when you turn the ball over 6 times.
2007 - 2nd round of playoffs. Lose 28-27 to the eventual state champ again in double OT. The corner jumped offsides and blocked our extra point attempt.

First game as a varsity OL coach. I was 19 and had no business being there. Played a school where my HS OL coach worked at. I was full of piss and vinegar to win. Lost 40-0. After the game, my old coach comes over and says, "Stick with it kid. Tell your coach to look into zone blocking." ... We were a zone blocking team! That's just how bad their technique looked. Wake up call for sure. I needed that one.

State quarterfinals we were undefeated and top ranked.
Throw a screen and its overthrown and incomplete, linesman is slow on his whistle, opposing player sees ball laying on ground with no whistle, jumps on ball out of bounds, gets up and returns it to the 1 yard line. Stunned linesman doesn't know what to do. He stands there for a moment then runs down to the 1 and awards other team the ball on our 1. Worst thing is I saw the same moron do the same thing in a C-team game at the start of the year.
Start of second half they try a coffin corner kick. Their player gets their first but muffs the recovery. Everyone clearly sees ball roll free and our player jump on it and comes up with it. Fat tub of lard linesman who is too fat to be a linesman since he cant keep up with the ball awards opposing team the ball where the opposing player muffed the recovery. That the ball was 10 yards away from where he is saying the ball was recovered is beyond his ability to comprehend. After all how can someone who is easily 320 think straight after having to sprint 30 yards.
Oh it was bad. The good thing that came out of it was the calls were so bad that our state ASOC made some serious reforms.

2005 State Championship game...
Tied game with less than 2:00 left. Gave up a big pass to the 5. We were able to hold them and force overtime.
First OT, they got the ball and we held them on all 4 downs. We get to the 3 on our possession. 4th down FG is just like a PAT. Unfortunately, we were playing at Ravens Stadium and the goalposts are different sizes. Wide Right by 6".
Second OT, we catch them on a play action pass but the officials said we were out... replay on TV slowed it down and zoomed in and we were definitely in bounds. We end up not getting anything. They had a 4th and 2... and run behind Phil Taylor (formerly of Penn St, Baylor, Cleveland Browns) and win 20-14.
They had 2 NFL players and a number of D1 players. We had good kids with a D2 QB. Haven't seen the game since we played it. I refuse to watch it still 11 years later.

one thats going to haunt me for awhile was our game last week.
our offense was FINALLY firing on all cylinders, we ran for 250, passed for 180. Special Teams were on point - ran 2 KORs back for TD's (one called back for a block in the back that may or may not have happened, film is inconclusive) Defense..... did there best? - gave up 40 in the first half, 0 in the second half.
lost 35 - 40.... in the final seconds we were on the goal-line.... just ran out of time.

I would have to say playing Strong Guard at 170 pounds in the DW at a school of 200.
Then running into a D1 3 tech in the playoffs.
Nothing you can do when someone outweighs you by 120 pounds and is still faster than you are.
Learning you were big fish in a little pond sucks

Had too many of these to even start commenting about. Sometimes you eat the bar and sometimes the bar eats you.
