sorry, but it will be hard to get someone there with no teaching opening, your school is relying on off campus coaches, i'd say your the one to do it, most coaches are teachers, if they are not there has to be a job there for them in the community and with as much work it takes to run a program that job is going to have to pay good and be flexible

Why do any of you give a flying {censored} what they want out of their coach? It's their job, they can require whatever they want. Because I'm stuck in ISS the rest of the year until I move to my new school. I'm bored out of my mind. I've reached the end of the Internet 4 times already.

What if I brought the Facemelter? Would that be considered? But seriously, you need a guy who can build a program, not an offense. Solid weight room numbers and good schemes of any kind will help I see your facemelter and raise you a lit weight room complete with bottles of syrup.

At small school level, regardless of the state, a team will be as good offensively as their OL coach. Execute correctly your scheme and have a rhyme and reason to it. Proper technique will make smaller OL be successful. In OH, a good OLcoach and D.C. are invaluable to a program D5 and lower. Kirtland does well because they have a good blocking scheme and execute if well.

Do we have any rich coaches on this board? This would be a great Coach Huey "Hard Knocks". The best free agent coach on here takes this job and we film ever second and see if he can turn things around.

I can also see this going the other way...Deadspin headlines...PARENTS TAKE OVER FOOTBALL PROGRAM.
If I had a dollar for every time a coach wanted to say to a parent..."let's see you coach"...well here it is.

Long story short I have got crap for saying I could use some help so that I could try and step up and try to make a difference. I have also got crap for saying that we want a coach that does A, B, C and not X, W, Z. All because we don't want this joke of a program to continue. So what do I do, because I'm wrong no matter what in a lot of your eye's? I can't sit by for another 8 years just watching and doing nothing. redcoach Surely you must realize that a program is bigger than the coach. I don't know if there is a better illustration of the program being a joke than the fact that a parent without hiring power is posting advertisements for a position and including specific offensive schemes as a preferred requirement. The best coaches in the country could not overcome that kind of "broken" program. There is a saying in coaching that there are far more good football coaches than there are programs/schools worthy of those coaches. Right now, it seems as if your community does not DESERVE a quality football coach. Fix those issues first, and who knows.

Look on the bright side, someone has to be THAT team, you know, the team that everyone looks on the schedule and marks it up as a "W", not everyone can win! When you embrace your role, less stress! Kind of reminds me of this scene from Superbad
(The following post was made for entertainment value, always consult your physician before taking any advice especially from a football board)

There's a good coach in Ohio that might be interested. if you or the people In your town won't dig through his post here and put them on Twitter.
If they're having town meetings and seriously wanting to commit to the team, you all will be fine. Hire the right guy and get creative If you all have to if there's not a full time teaching position.

The Track team has had parents coaching it. I know that two of the last 4 Head Coaches we have had haven't ever coached High School Football before. I can't say for a fact about the other two. We can't get a teacher coach to come because there are no teacher spots open. So you can't draw in a coach that would need to move. The school has let the Head Coach do what he wants and guess what we have got. School lets out at 3pm football players are told they should left until the coaches show up at 5pm. Guess who watches over them NO one, so most go home, go hang out at a stores, or goof off till the coaches show up. We have one pep rally each year for home coming. Coaches don't recruit with in the school because they don't get there till 5pm. There isn't and hasn't been no real structure to the program for the past 8 years, because of the people who have taken the HC job. I'm not saying that the people who took the job didn't feel like they tried or did what they could. I'm saying they didn't do what a Head Coach should and needs to. It has came down to Aug with no coach so they just take anyone. That said what coach is going to move to a school and coach a team for only $5700 a year and no teaching job. Each time a coach quits they wait all the way till the last minute hoping a teaching job opens up. At that point they take who ever so that the boys still get to play football. After seeing this happen over and over again for the past 8 years, it has made me think that I may need to do something my self, because what has been going on isn't working. The people/coaches that have taken the job isn't taking care of the things that need to be taken care of and the school has just let them do what they want because that is all they can get for now. Yes it still has the old coaches name on the website because they are hoping a teaching spot opens up and if not come Aug they will take whoever will take the job. You know how to sale a phuckin program!! This place just keeps getting better and better. I may just have to pack my bags and go live amongst the buckeyes

Red, I think it's truly admirable that you want the program to improve. This site is full of guys with enormous experience and wisdom (I'm not one of them, btw). So when they tell you that this program is a dumpster fire that isn't likely to change unless something drastic happens you should believe it. You might want to send your kids to another school if you want them to play for a decent program.

Well thanks for the positive reinforcement guys. It's nice to know that all is not lost and there is light at the end of the tunnel. All joking aside I did learn somethings from these forums over the past few days. I also receive some good ideas, and was given some things to try. Some of you have even offered to help in any way you could. So all in all these forums was very helpful, now I will go see what we can do from here. Thanks again for everything and take care.

The program will remain a joke if YOU, as a parent of 1st-5th graders are "trying things" That is definitely a symptom of the issue. You want a good program in your community, than the school administration/district administration needs to be the ones who try some things. They need to put the foundations in place, and then get out of the way (other than to provide support).

He just needs to find a coach who can talk Jimmy Chitwood into re-joining the program.

redcoach I hope the tongue-in-cheek replies by the coaches here have enlightened you to the ridiculousness of the situation. I don't think anyone here is faulting you for wanting a program to have success, but as I (and some others) have pointed out, I don't think you actually understand what the problem is, and therefore it isn't possible to find the correct solution. If your car won't turn over, Changing the tires doesn't help.

redcoachPlease explain why you said there are 212 students in your school when the OHSAA web site says 338.

Post by redcoach on Feb 11, 2017 10:16:54 GMT -6
212 from 9 to 12 338 from 6 to 12
Our Jr High and High school are all in the same building so the 338 is from 6 to 12 grade.
Our graduating classes fluctuate between the 40's and 60's, but we are currently averaging around 53 kids per graduating class.

I meant 373 across all 7 grade as of 2014
I don't remember the current number they told us in last months meeting, but I could find out if you want the current number to date.

Let the guy run what he knows, but hire a guy that actually knows his chit.
If the school has no talent, find a coach that knows SS&C and can mold them, but give him 4 years.
