I know there is no universal football terminology, but there are some words that are pretty universal. Yesterday in practice we yelled "peter" on punt return to alert our guys to get out of the way, and I made the comment, "Every team in America yells the same thing." So that got me thinking and hence this thread. This thread probably isn't a new topic, but I was too lazy to search.
So here is a list of stuff that I think is pretty universal. Even if your team does not use that exact term, 99% of coaches will understand what that term means.
Peter - get out of the way of the ball. Used on punt return.
Fire - we just messed up on the field goal or extra point and time for my eligible receivers to go run a route before I get killed.
Bingo - we just picked the ball off. Let's go block someone and score.
3 tech - I think everyone knows this.
Odd front
Even front
Jet sweep
Veer
Buck sweep
Hitch
Tired of typing now. Let's add to this list and start ARGUING!

We use poison on punt return. Didn't hear Peter until I was 24 and thought it was weird as heck. Now I just yell "Get away from the ball!" Lol

We use "Oskie" for an interception.

I sit in the stands with my wife and the head coach's wife. First punt I yelled PETER!! they all looked at me like I farted! I explained that we used peter because in public you should never touch it!!! They loved learning that and now our whole section yells peter on grounded punts!! LOL!!

I was told we say peter because no guy wants to be around one. Can't say that stuff nowadays.

We use "Hot! Hot Hot!" (as in hot potato, don't touch) to get away from bouncing ball on Punt Return.
Never wanted to have to explain to a female BOE member or administrator what "Peter" meant.

we yelled Oskie as well for INT. "We just yell get away" bad thing about it we yell that almost every time, and still have people going toward the ball watching it roll by them.

We started using "Grenade" as our call to get away from punts. Kids didn't know what the hell made "Peter" so scary to be near, but they sure knew to get away from a "Grenade".

We have a guy that calls Swinging Gate "Captain Jack". I've worked with guys that have called it Water Bucket as well. I learned it as swinging gate, so that's what it is.

I've used oskie for a defensive turnover since I first learned football. Got to my current stop, yelled oskie, and everyone looked me like I had 3 heads. They use bingo here. Same with peter. A muffed punt for us is Omaha.

For us Omaha means a coach is getting ready to rumble and needs back up from the other coaches!
Otherwise we use all the same terminology that silky posted except bingo. We were an oskie team back when we used to get interceptions.

I hired a D-cord who was breaking down film with me one night and he said, "Coach they're ridin' dirty." I said WTF does that mean? He said it was a QB who couldn't throw...
Who knew.
Shovel pass vs. Shuffle pass drives me absolutely nuts... Hook and lateral vs. Hook and ladder is also a touchy subject...
I also get a little annoyed with all the titles defensive coaches give their strong safety: Spur, Monster, Rover, Robber...enough already.

a shuffle pass is a dance move. a shovel pass is a forward pass from the chest. hook and ladder is what dumb people call a hook and lateral I hate people using the term "weak" and "strong" safety - like what? does one bench less then the other? thats also the reason ive taken "weak" and "strong" out of our terminology all together. we have an Open and a Tight side. or 2 tight sides or 2 open sides.

We used tight and split side linemen when I was a college coach, flopped them all and ran plays to tight side were even numbered and split side were odd, not left and right. rip and Liz? roger and louie? Army navy? formations are fun!

We're a Bingo team, and we also call Peter. I like the idea of using grenade, that's pretty cool...not sure I can break my habit of yelling Peter mid play though, sorta just happens.

War - will around rush Sap - Sam around point

Does everyone not yell "Ball!" when there's a fumble?
I wonder how much longer people will get to yell "Peter" before it gets banned as un-PC and homophobic...
For us, instead of telling bingo after a turnover, in my part of the country every team I've been a part of has yelled "Oskie!"
Jet Sweep might also be called Fly Sweep, Speed Sweep, or I knew one guy who called it "Reverse Sweep."
Buck Sweep is different to me than most people. A lot of people use it to refer to any sweep with both Gs pulling, but I'm kind of a stickler on it meaning a sweep with a specific buck backfield action.

If the other team fumbles, yes.
If we drop it, usually it's a different four-letter word.
