There DEFINITELY IS universal terminology that stretches across all levels of football from peewee/flag football all the way up to the NFL. And PETER is 300% one of those universal terms. If your coach used anything else then he’s just an egotistic small pp energy weirdo that wanted to forcibly use something else. Even whenever these small pp individuals did try to change the term used they still went with the exact same starting letter, like how someone said their coach used the term Poison. But yeah, PETER 100% is universal at all levels to get the {censored} away from the punt/run your ass straight out of bounds without touching the ball at all lol.

Everyone saying things like bucksweep, sweep, toss, waggle, you guys are just touched with the Tism 100%, bc these aren’t universal terms but actual play calls. Yall stretch the most just to try and contribute to topics/conversations with a “new” answer.

Funny PETER story from this past year. My sis-in-law came to some games this year. She has taught at the elementary school for years. After the game she asked me who PETER was and why didn't I just take him out if he was doing so bad that I had to yell at him all the time. We had a huge laugh and she turned red when I told her why we say it.

The origin of the "Peter" call, according to Johnny Majors, was from the University of Tennessee: "Because you shouldn't play with your Peter."

That's funny, I was sure "poison" came first, then some wise guy made it "Peter". Everyone understands poison immediately; if you explain it as "Peter", they'll ask, "Why would I want to avoid that? That's a good thing to play with!"

The thing about "universal terminology" is that not everybody uses the term but just about everybody understands it. I may not use the term "Waggle" but I know what it means.

Fly Sweep is out of Gun, Jet Sweep from under center. I've always thought opposite, Mark Speckman is the Fly sweep master and he's an under center guy. Jet is from gun to me. And then I hit the googles up just to see and this is what they said, so it must be true...... While both "fly sweep" and "jet sweep" refer to a similar football play where a wide receiver in motion receives a handoff near the sideline, the key difference is often the offensive formation used; a "fly sweep" is typically run out of a more traditional Wing-T or Double Wing formation, while a "jet sweep" is usually run from a shotgun formation with the receiver coming in motion just before the snap, making the jet sweep appear faster and more dynamic.
