In the first three weeks of the season we lost all 3 of our starting DL- 2 returning all conference players and a third that had a monster off-season (grew 3 inches and put on 25 pounds). One was done for the season, One missed 4 games and the last kid missed 2 games. The 2 games that we didn't have any of them we lost 90-38.
Fast forward to week 7- we lose our QB- broken leg- he played the entire game. He is fantastic, gritty, calm and in charge. Week 8- 4th quarter- QB2 goes down- possible broken leg (we lost, not because of QB 2 or 3)
Week 9- We tell QB 3 he should be at the JV game just in case..but QB4/5 will play Before the game JV coaches are talking to QB 4/5- 4 drops a vap pen out of his pocket- Good Bye QB 5 looks at coach and says- does this mean I have to play..brief conversation about plays what to do etc.. and QB 3 played the entire JV game (QB 5 is a "hider" that I have talked about in angry mom thread)
So we are limping into the play-offs for the first time in my coaching tenure.

Don't feel too bad coach, last friday night in week 8 of the season we lost our Starting QB on the 8th offensive snap, and in the last 2 minutes of the 3rd quarter we lost our 2nd string qb... both are done for the season no chance of coming back. So now we limp into the playoffs with a kid who hasn't played a down of QB at the high school level... Zone Read is our offense now lol

We have been slowly transitioning away from zone read in the last couple of years...and our call sheet says give or keep on it since QB1 and 2 are not playing...not so much read any more.

Need to add that all 3 centers that have snapped this year were unavailable for practice yesterday..one injury and 2 illness. Everyone else was at practice(even injured QB's) so we continue this one position at a time trend.

We are doing the same thing, we used to run RPOs on everything, we're still running the RPOs but it is truly 100% window dressing. We will tell him to give, pull, or throw the RPO. We've been up tempo/ no huddle; and now we are huddling up... which i prefer to do anyhow. It will be a drastically different offense this friday night for a chance to win the region.

We had a rb issue this year. Tie game and all our goal line fbs are out. 4th and 1 from the 1. We put our stud DE at FB and follow the wing. Clean up anything that shows. We score...he wiped out about 2 kids.
We get the ball back on an int and we need 1 first down to win. Run from 11 personnel and get the ball to 3rd and 4ish last remaining rb goes down with cramps. What do we do now? Put the de at rb and run QB power for 3 yards. We don't run qb power either. That little chit moved the pile to get the first down too. Our current qb is a freshman fyi.

Injuries truly suck, but they are fun, you get a real sense of what kind of coaches you have.

From the viewpoint of losing a player, not fun, in that aspect you are correct. From the viewpoint of moving the puzzle pieces around and discovering which ones give you the best opportunity for success, that is the fun part. As coaches we talk to players about "responding to adversity," well name a better time to practice what we preach.

We finished up the season last night-- a senior got to start at center- happy for him but our all-conference center didn't make it through warm-ups.
due to the previously mentioned QB issues we put in a wildcat type offense with our All conference FB/LB- he got hurt in the 1st quarter and played sparingly the rest of the half and not at all the second half.
Small senior class and lots to look forward to next season- that being said the seniors we had were great kids who were wonderful team mates and celebrated the teams success despite the lack of their own individual successes in most cases.

Nothing is more fun to watch than a group of young men playing for each other, that is a win in the column titled "Life". Sorry for the rough season coach, but it sounds like yall have some great days ahead of you!
