Coaches,
I am looking to visit a program that is running a form of the pistol offense. Does anyone know any D 1-AA, II, or III programs in the southeast programs that are running this offense?
Also any HS coaches that run the pistol that will be at the AFCA convention and wouldnt mind sitting down to walk my staff through it?

Nevada is the most well known D-I Pistol team.
We are a spread Fly Sweep team and we also run some out of the Gun. I am going to try and install the Pistol this Spring during our spring ball. I will be going to the AFCA convention if you want to try and share some stuff.

How is the timing on the zone read out of the Pistol? I like the ability to balance the formation, but I worry about the timing of the zone read.
Also, in the pistol, do you have the QB reverse out and toss it on a sweep, as opposed to having the RB come across in front?

I think Tog is the resident Pistol guru. Check some of his posts in the Running Game .

I just turned on the Division III championship game and University of Wisconsin Whitewater is showing the pistol. I have not been watching the whole game and not sure if this is their main offense, but they are showing it now.

just a note of interest hear. Witchita(sp) state kansas was running the pistol back in the mid 1980s. they ran it a little different. they used a off set I formation and 3 wr. they ran power O, counter trey, speed option.
I saw a h.s. team in ohio do this and ohio northern did it a few years ago.

airman--
I believe you're probably talking about Coldwater HS in Ohio. They're a small school, but play in arguably the toughest small school conference in the nation (the MAC). Every year a team that goes 6-4 in their conference wins a state title.

Nevada Reno plays the University of Miami in the MPC Bowl - UNR runs the pistol.

I found coldwater to be a interesting team. they also use some run and shoot prinicples in their offense.
