I disagree in short distance situation the pressure is on and players are often thinking about their assignment too much. The need to be reminded to watch the ball first.

It puts the wrong message in their minds and makes them nervous. You're much better off with something positive like?Watch the ball".

I have an asst who yells constantly. Putting players down, calling them soft etc. This happens from stretching to conditioning.

Trust me, if it was up to me I would. He has hurt the team after being there for only 2 weeks after the death of our very good HC. Two of our best (d1) players have left already because of the "bad environment". Unreal.

You have an assistant? Are you the HC? FIRE him!!! In some places, that's not up to the HC. Sure it is, you can assign him to non coaching duties and keep him away from the kids if you can't straight up can him. Or you can bring up the verbal abuse to the admin, let it slip to parents/boosters and boom, problem solved. plenty of ways to get rid of a guy without actually firing him, even if he is in place by someone over your head no reason to have him around kids.
