Looking for ideas to have my team participate in some sort of community service activity. I think it would be a gret team building opportunity and a chance to build bridges with our community. Any ideas that you guys may have would be great. Thanks Coach Payne

I have read about this, never tried it, but it is one of my long range goals to have my players work with Habitat for Humanity and build a home.

My sophmore year of high school, myself and three teammates went to talk to elementary school students about not drinking or using drugs. Most the presentation was off the top of our heads, and could have been better. Afterwards though, one of the teachers took us to his room to sign "a few autographs", which ammounted to about half the students, and this was a decent sized school. After school got out a few of us stuck around to play catch with some of the kids. Not sure how much this helps, but it was a really cool experience for myself and I think for the kids.
Also, if you can, get your players involved in coaching youth league football. My senior year a couple of us did this and it brought a few extra fans to our games.

Make a wish foundation Allow a young kid the chance to be apart of a football team. Most of the time they come and hang out at a practice plus get some attention at a game. Only downside is that most of the kids illnesses are fatal. that is tough on highschool kids.
They also may want you and your kids to work a fundraiser.

Coach, Our school is located in the inner city of Philadelphia. Our team is affiliated with the "Play it Smart" program. This program is sponsored by the National Football Foundation. The program pays for an academic coach for our football players. This has been a fantastic addition to our program. The responsibility of the players in all of this is that they are expected to commit time not only to academics, but also to the community. We work with the Church down the street from us. Herb Lusk and Ray Ellis (both former Philadelphia Eagles players) are the ministers at this church, and they have been fantastic. Our players volunteer with the church and hand our Turkey baskets during the holidays. Our academic coach stresses the importance of community service to our players. If you have the opportunity to get involved with Play it Smart, I would recommend it highly. Coach Geiser
