Our two-year all-Area center graduated, so we need to find a new one. I have two candidates. The first kid played center on the F-S team last year, but he is pretty unreliable and more than a little lazy. The other kid played TE last year, isn't really big, but he's a tough-ass kid who will work hard.
We are predominately a gun team. What are the techniques and teaching points for training a shotgun center?

Wildcat-
I would be nervous about having a lazy center. It would be like having a lazy catcher in baseball. Do you have someone else who can play TE? If so you can move that kid inside. Can you teach one of your other OLM to snap? We did this one year. Our center was very slow snapping the ball but he was a good blocker. So I found another starter who could snap and flip flopped them. Will you be seeing more even or odd fronts?

#1 rule in gun: Keep your ass down when you are snapping the ball!!! A lot of centers want to get their ass up in the air, and the snap goes 5 feet over the QB's head.
