My current team has traditionally given out pride stickers, and our relatively new staff doesn't have a system in place to decide why they are being given out.
I want to develop a uniform way to distribute them without being over the top. We ordered 500 stickers with the intent that they would last the whole season.
Does anyone have a system in place as to what earns a pride sticker offensively, defensively, special teams?
Would big hits be out of line in our world of political correctness? or is that considered a "bounty?"

We do two different types of stickers. The first we call "badges" and they are military looking bars that go across the back of the helmet. They are given for anything that we feel leads to success in the program including weight room attendence, meeting strength and speed goals, grades, community service and fundraising.
The other stickers we give are the more traditional pride stickers. We give them to anyone that plays on a unit if they meet the team goals. Which I honestly can't remember off the top of my head.

Every 3 tackles, 1 for a TFL or sack. 1 for a turnover. 1 for a blocked kick. 1 for every tackle on special teams. 1 for every 3 PBUs. I for a grade out of over 80%. Those are some of the ones we have used for D. For O some ideas, 1 for a pancake block. 1 for everyone on the field when we score. 1 per 100 yds rushing. 1 per 150 yds passing. Cant remember everything else our O gives them out for.

www.coldhardfootballfacts.com/content/sticky-tradition/4962/Jeff Purinton of the Florida State football information office shared with us most of the criteria the team uses for issuing the stickers. "There's a lot of ways to get them," said Purinton, "and also to lose them." The offense gets one tomahawk for: Scout team player of the week Blocker of the week Downfield blocker of the week Third-down player Second-effort award 100-yard rusher 25-yard run Receiving (5 catches or 100 yards) TD run Field goal 10 consecutive PATs 60 percent completions for QB No sacks allowed TD catch, TD pass The defense and special teams use a point system, and players get a tomahawk for every 10 points and lose one for -10 points: TD (10 points) Safety (8 points) Big play (10 points) INT (5 points) Caused fumble (5 points) Recovered fumble (5 points) Sack (4 points) Pressure on QB (3 points) Deflection (3 points) Tackle for loss (2 points) Third/fourth-down stop (2 points) Tackle on kickoff (1 point) Kick inside 10 (8 points) Kick inside 20 (4 points) Block on kick return (1 point) First-down penalty (-5 points) Loafing (-5 points) Late into game (-5 points) Missed assignments (-1 point) Players also lose a tomahawk for: Flagrant penalty Fumble INT Kicking game breakdown Academic violation

TheFOotballCoach My one caution about many of the suggestions above is that NOTHING happens in a vacuum in football. Some coaches "solution" to this is to give a sticker to everyone on the field when certain events happen (ex, TD) or for a certain unit (ex, all OL when a back rushes for 100+). I still think that those accomplishments don't happen in a vacuum, and am simply just not a fan of stickers for those. Give them out for academics--and maybe reserve some for outstanding individual efforts (OL blocking multiple guys on the same play, RB breaking multiple tackles, Defender splitting a double, great effort pursuit etc. )

We give stickers out for several of the reasons listed above. However, we have one big rule. If we don't win the game then we don't give out stickers. We want them to understand that doing what is needed to get the win is bigger than their individual stats. Get the win and we celebrate those individual accomplishments.

Thanks everyone. I like what Ohio State does, some of the numbers need to be tweaked to match our expectation though.

Accomplishment was probably not the best word to use. Individual Stats. I agree things on the field do not happen in a vacuum. However, we have found that the kids like and enjoy it better when they get stickers for things like scoreing, 100yds rushing, pancake blocks, etc... I don't think this is a perfect system nor a system that works for every team. But it is a system that works for OUR team. Like I said the team goal of getting a win is #1. If we don't achieve that then we don't even worry about the other stuff.

We have two color stars, white and black.
For the whites ones, if we WIN every player gets a star. No win, no stars. We have 3 offensive goals, 3 defensive, and three special teams. If we achieve the goal in a win EVERY player who dresses gets a star. So the best players have the same number of stickers as the backups.
The black stars are for CHARACTER. The faculty emails my their choices every week for players wo stand out in their classes for leadership, effort, humility, honor, and other characteristics we want our young men to exhibit.
I read the emails to the team before pre game meal every week and hand out the stars. The team claps for every player who gets one.
If you email me I will send you the chart for the white stars with the team goals. richard.darlington@ocps.net

Scout player of the week; "Above and Beyond Play" (big sack, fumble, TD, etc); OL player of the week. Those were our big ones.

Here's something that the school I'm at now does that I had never seen before.
Instead of individual stickers, we take scalps.
After each win, we put the opposing teams sticker on the back of our helmets. Also give out region champs stickers, rivalry stickers, etc.
