Backstory: New staff, I am the remaining holdover from previous staff. Was told to install and run "my stuff" as OC. Since the spring there have been various tweaks and wrinkles to my stuff to suit the HC's liking. Coming in to the season our QB who would have been a 3 year starter gives up football leaving without an experienced QB in the program. We were DW under the previous staff by the way. Of our 11 offensive starters...9 will be having their 4th game of varsity experience this week. Blocking has been bad, passing has been bad...etc..this past week we played a team that appeared on film that if we executed and did things right we could compete...we lost 56-9...after the game HC says we got to meet to tweak the offense...the stuff he wants to see this week is very similar to the stuff he showed me in our very first meeting...the last 2 days of practice he has called all the plays during team sessions then asked me yesterday after practice "am I getting a feel for it yet" This just comes off to me as me being demoted or am I looking to much into it?

The good news is he wants to know if you have a feel for it. Learn what your boss tells you to learn and go call the best game you can. Get your kids in position to be successful.

Coach - just have an open conversation with your HC. If it's going to work you guys need to be able to be on the same page. If he isn't being direct with you then that's on him however, you guys still need to be on the same page. So step up and have a direct open conversation.

Its the HC's ass not yours. A OJW would say 'if you run the DW you better win'. You cannot run a DW loose to an average team 56-9 and expect to keep your job.
Understand he will be fired at the end of the season maybe before if you keep running the DW and losing. He has no choice.

You lost 56-9 - and the offense is the problem?

You lost 56-9 - and the offense is the problem? Those 56 could be from 2 interceptions, 3 fumbles, and 9 3 and outs...just saying. (I'm sure we have all been there)

You lost 56-9 - and the offense is the problem? It doesn't really matter. As our resident grand pubah of the double wing The Outlaw Josey Waleswould say 'if you run the double wing you better win'. Its ugly football. If you dont win you get fired. The HC has to make an offensvie change or he is gone at the end of the season.

Yep! Happened to me and not ashamed to admit it. I did a poor job of using tendency breakers, varying up formations, etc... We did have some key injuries, but that's no excuse. Head Coach installed the Spread and we get off the bus throwing it. I had run the SW at a previous school but, we also had a good bit of talent. At this school, the first season we did rather well (340 yds a game with 30.2 points per game). Last year, scored 1 TD in 2 games. HC scrapped it and we haven't looked back. I could have gotten mad, but as others have mentioned...It's his program. I work for him and it is what it is. I plan on applying for another Coordinator gig soon (maybe after this season), but hey I am learning some good football and my philosophies have been altered a little. It was my first time as a Coordinator. Did a crappy job. I'll know better next time.
Saying all that, I think you take this and run with it. If he has ideas, listen and use them. Maybe he will "demote" you but, I think if you look hard enough you may make yourself a better coach because of it.
I wasn't Dudley Do Right by any stretch either. I was pissed when he took over playcalling, but that's part of the competitor side of me.

You pretty much have to win immediately with any offense that doesn't have the QB 4-5 yards behind the center and at least 4 receivers.

There is a misunderstanding. Under the previous HC we were a DW team. I was retained from the old staff and named OC because I wanted to run a spread attack that took advantage of our athletes and what at the time would have been our 3 year starter of a QB. Also Friday night we had 1 fumble on a 3rd and 2 dive in the first half, and our Soph QB threw a INT in the 4th quarter with the score already 56-9. We talked at practice yesterday, and we got it straightened out. Basically we are transitioning to his stuff. Pro style offense..I guess old pro style offense...I formation, split backs..etc..I'm good, just gonna roll with the flow.

I had the same thing happen to me last year defensively. I like coaching more than my ego, so I ran what the boss said to run. Now it's mine and I've put my own spin on it. HC's appreciate guys with attitudes like yours, that are willing to help out and learn. Keep doing what you're doing, you never know what may happen, or what doors may open. Duece

Heck I get fired about once a game.... At my old school a coach was considered a rookie until he was fired twice during games.

Heck I get fired about once a game.... At my old school a coach was considered a rookie until he was fired twice during games. Yesterday during the Alabama-Florida game, Nick Saban on at least two occasions was caught on camera yelling "What the phuk are you doing?!" at Lane Kiffin. And, this was on a day where the Alabama offense was pretty much lights out!

And, this was on a day where the Alabama offense was pretty much lights out! That's probably just because it's Lane Kiffin. Saban was lighting everyone up early in that game. Don't want to high jack this thread or switch gears, but he comes off as a huge jerk to put it nicely. Berate your staff if you want, but I'm not a fan of him getting in his QB's face and screaming at him after a fumble. There's a time and place to lay into a player, but IMO that's not the time. That type of reaction should be reserved for missed assignments, stupid personal fouls, etc.
