Do you ever feel like your talking to a brick wall when it comes to team rules? Are your rules clear, and do the players understand the rules clearly? What about off campus disiplines and how do you manage that? How are they enforced? How much tolerance do you have for your skilled guys that cut up?

I have a Zero tolerance policy for team rule violations. I think its a double standard to give talented players a break when it comes to team rules, but not to the rest. This is especially true when it comes to academics. If a player is not keeping up with his school or is taking classes that are well below his capabilities...then I tell him that he's going to be concentrating on school for a while because he is not on the team anymore.

I agree with Aztec. If I have too many rules I get tired of being the bad cop all the time. Be on time - Be respectful- Don't embarrass the program.

1) do what is right..always 2) be where you are suppossed to be, at the time you are suppossed to be there, doing what you are suppossed to be doing.
unity council made up of captains and upper class good guys will discipline a boy after his 3rd strike with a coach. first two strikes result in severe conditioning (not smart, then must be fit is what id tell em) unity council will explain a) embarrasing the program, team and coaches and b) heres what we suggest you do to survive the program from here on out... screw up adn youre gone. discipline not to embarrass a boy, but to stop him from embarassign himself.

I always liked John Maddens approach to rules when he was at Oakland. He wrote in his book "never make a rule you cant enforce or you don't want to deal with repercussions of enforcing that rule". Thats way he had 3 rules. 1. Be on time. 2. Listen to the coaches. 3. Play like hell when the time comes.
