We play a lot of hot mid day games. We're looking for something super easy to give to the players at half time to fuel them up a bit for the 2nd half.
We were thinking Granola bars. Any other suggestions? Preparation is an issue (for oranges etc) so stuff we can purchase as is if the best for our situation.

In one of the programs I was in (we had some money) we gave them uncrustables and bananas.

We do pretzels, and plums and peaches if available.

A couple of years ago, we had some type of fruit snacks that the players ate during half time. It was basically a poor man's version of those Gatorade recover or whatever they're called.
Don't know if they actually worked or not, but the players thought so. They probably were some placebo fruit recovery snacks ha

In college all our games were played at 1pm. We had oranges (cut into quarters), bananas, and Gatorade. Easy way to get those; if you have an inter squad scrimmage charge a couple bucks per person or a family can donate a bag or oranges, bananas, or a pack of Gatorade. Or just ask for parent donations. I have seen both work equally well.

Studs and orange eaters. Apparently the guy I coached with was an orange water because the other guys on staff who played with him give him sh!t still. Anyway, if halftime oranges are good enough for Urban Meyer, they're good enough for me.

is this food going to get digested and used before the game is over? Seems that liquefied meals would be the way to go. Like a whey protein shake with some gatorade.

When I played in college I had my brother hand me a hot dog or two during half time. We had breakfast at 8am that morning and I was so hungry by half time 2:30pm.

Why the hell do you need food? That was my first thought but then I remembered that we have our team meal three hours before game time and it's not a huge one. That makes it something like 4 and a half hours before halftime which is a lot for teenage boys. We have Power Bars.

Fig Newtons and chocolate milk, sounds like preschool! That is what used to eat when we would peasant hunt all day in Iowa. It really helped with the leg cramps and dehydration.

We did fun-size Snickers and sliced oranges. Nothing too heavy on the ole belly, but sugar that could be processed easily. A couple bags of Snickers were easy to pick up. Fun-size were enough, but not too much. My wife usually cut the oranges into quarters. Our nutritionist recommended it and we had good energy to start the 3rd.

Our pregame meal is at 3:30pm for a 7:30pm kick-off. We have orange slices, bananas, and power bars available at half time. Most kids don't eat anything at half-time (they usually do drink a Gatorade), but we have it available if desired.

we don't play in the daytime, but we take bananas, oranges and gatorade to every game. never seem to have a problem.

When I was in college they would have pb&j and bananas in the locker room for us. There was enough for everyone to eat 2 pb&js and 2 bananas. I would be the last one out of the locker room because if their was extras I would put it in my bag for halftime...

Read somewhere that fruit is no longer the choice. Something about how the fructose in fruit somehow decreases your energy level. I can't remember if that's the exact reason, but I think it suggested a more bread based carbohydrate snack and electrolytes, especially salt (so basically pretzels and Gatorade would be ideal according to those researchers).
