Coaches, What do you think? Is it possible to coach 2 Programs. I'm talking about your Varsity Staff coach both teams (Varsity and JV) for the entire season? We have 7 coaches on the Varsity Staff.

know of quite a few staffs that do that. i've been on one for quite some time. have an offensive staff & a defensive staff. the ol coach coaches all o-lineman 10th - 12th. set up practice in such a way where varsity is on offense & jv is on defense. then switch. or, workout jv in the morning before school & varsity after school - if 1 side of ball.

I don't know if I follow the question, but I'm sure it IS possible.
We have a Varsity, a JV (juniors mixed with Sophs), Sophomores, and Freshmen program.
We usually have the JV squad headed up by assistant coaches....Dline coach as the DC, OL coach as the OC....etc to let them get opportunities to "move up" / gain experience, too.

50 kids in our program (grades 9-12). Junior varsity (9 gasmes) and varsity (10 games) schedule. 4 paid coaches (head and three assistants), 2 full time volunteers. We practice together. The junior varsity is made up of freshmen, most sophomores and a few juniors. On Mondays they play, coached by one of the paid assistants and the two volunteers. On Tuesdays we practice together. On Wednesdays we practice together and then the jayvees stay for an hour to practice together. On Thursdays we practice together. On Fridays we do a walk through for the varsity game then the jayvees stay for an hour to practice together. Saturday = varsity game day. Sunday = off. Both teams (varsity and junior varsity) run the same systems.

JV=Non starters on Varsity. I just have the "Varsity" get more reps than the "JV" in practice. The sophomores are a "separate" team, with it's own coaches. (Some of you may only have Varsity, JV, and Frosh. In Utah we have Varsity, JV, Sophomore. The 9th graders play little league here.

Very similar situation to runtheball86. 4 paid coaches for our program. We practice everyone together 9-12. Looking at having between 50-60 players out for football this fall. Two of assistants are designated at JV coaches, sometimes they will run a full-speed practice with the JV on Thursday night while the varsity assistant and I run the walk through for Friday night's game. We have done very well as far as wins and losses over the past 4 years so I'd say it is possible.

I am currently on a staff in Texas 4A that is a split staff with 10 coaches. The OC and HC(DC) coach varsity only(each will run the scout team for the other). The other coaches each are assigned to a different team 9th A or B, JV A or B but coach their position for all of the teams 9-12. I was on a staff that took over a destitute situation in 2A and we coached every kid 7-12 and went to every game 7-12 for two years. Talk about worn out. But it had to be done to straighten every thing out and by the third year we were able to divide up responsiblities and we won a ton of ball games over the next 6 years.

Coach, I was at a place that had a lot of success (2 state titles) doing just that. Head Coach felt that the sophomores became better juniors class with that system. Lord knows the JV kids were afraid of anyone on Thursday night. There were 100 kids for both the JV and the Varsity and we had 9 coaches for everyone. But you might need at least 2 OL coaches. That is a lot of footwork for one set of eyes.

You kow what though? I would do it all over again. I was tired all of the time but it was great watching that hard work come to fruition.

put 4 coaches on O (Qb/ RB; WR; 2 on the OL), 3 on D (DL, LB, DB). divide team into Varsity and JV. 2 individual periods: when V is on O, JV is on D, JV on O, V on D. 2 group periods: V Offense vs. JV D. then D defense vs. JV O 2 Team periods: V offense vs. hey you's, then V defense vs. Hey you's.
