I probably shouldn't comment until I hear both sides, but if any of that stuff is true, Morelli has a right to be upset. Although, that article isn't the way to present your case.

He is at Penn State on a scholarship...what does he have to complain about? He needs to focus on his current situation and quit looking back.

Was Morelli the kid who verbally committed to Pitt before changing his mind at the last minute?

No matter what you feel or think; going to the media is the WORST WAY to deal with it. But as with every other aspect in this society, people aren't being taught to fight their battles for themselves. Let mommy and daddy deal with it, or better yet, let some dip-sh-t sports writer do it.

Thats him wildcat. Changed his mind at the last second. Some how I think hs films got out if Pitt and Penn St were after him. I think he was ranked top 5 qb's. I find it weird that he didn't get letters and film wasn't sent out but he still got all those offers. Word around PA was his dad was a bit wacko so who knows.

Why did Morelli feel the need to bash the HS's current QB? I find it hard to feel bad for someone who acts like that.

Morelli looks and sounds like a sissy-boy primadona to me.
I suppose he will blame Joe Pa if his NFL career doesn't pan out.

I'll bet he polishes his shoelaces before games.

According to Morelli, I must not care about my quarterback since I don't take him across the country to a camp in California.
And his coach only cares about the team!!!
Whining parents in Arkansas and an ego-centric punk at Penn State

The crazy thing is that the nasty comments allegedly made by his coach were apparently made by some other coach!
When the reporter asked Morelli what his thoughts were about what his high school coach supposedly said, Morelli should have said something like, "I really don't care. I'm too busy playing D-I football and getting ready for a bowl game to waste time thinking about what people in some high school are saying about me."

There was a situation around here like that a few years back. There was a really talented (big dude) TE that came out of one of the states best HS programs. The kid was big, fast, and strong but refused to spend anytime in the weight room. In fact, he got into it with the coaches once or twice when they asked him to hit the gym like everyone else.
Well, the big Pac-10 schools came a-knockin and most of them asked the HC what kind of time the kid spent in the weight room, looking for clues into his work ethic. He told them flat out that the kid refused to spend time in the weight room and really had nothing to do with the program after the season was over. They asked about his work ethic and the coach politely told them that the kid was a very talented athlete with very little heart. Suddenly these schools were pulling back a little, the kid had talent, but not enough talent to take him very far without some weight room time.
The parents caught wind of this and took the coaching staff to court. They tried to get a restraining order barring the HC from talking to recruiters. Needless to say, this coach is one of winningest coaches in state history and runs a great program; the restraining order didn't go very far.
The kid ended up going D1AA because after the restraining order situation, none of the Pac 10 schools wanted anything to do with the problems. These schools had recuited from this HC before and knew a good, honest coach when they met one. He and his parents pulled the same crap, telling the media that the HC had blown his chances of NFL stardom, blah, blah.. He got down here, started as a true freshman, refused to hit the weights, got into with his teammates and coaches, and ended up transfering to a PAC 10 school where he's wallowed in abscurity ever since.
The moral of this story; don't be a punk.

Here's a related question How many of you have given honest evaluations of players that are totally ignored by the recruiters?
I've told recruiters "This kid is a turd. He will never play a down for you." and they go ahead and recruit him and he quits before the first week of practice is out and now all my players have that stigma in their eyes.
I've also tried to build kids up and been ignored.

gee, I did not know I should be more concerned about getting kids scholarships. wow I should not worry about my team first.
it is not my job to get a kid a scholarship, send film or any other dogma related to recruiting. my job is to win games for podunk hi. most parents film their little darlings anyway. let they send film.

I agree that it's not a coach's job to get a kid a scholarship because he can't. If the kid can't play there's nothing you can do. I disagree strongly that the coach's job isn't to send film or participate in the recruiting process.

The head coach has to be honest with recruiters or they will disregard anything he says if he had built up a jerk and they signed him and found out later the coach had lied. The recruiters remember stuff like that and will not come a'knockin' again.

We tell our parents and players right at the beging of the year,-we do not get you scholorships, we cannot make a team offer you, we will do everything in our power to promote you with film and anything else we can but in the end it comes down to what the college coaches see and want and is out of our controll. I think the best way to tell a recruiter the kid might be a turd or not a real good character kid when they ask is to simply say "You have the film on him. Thats all I have to say."

It's not our job to "get our kid's scholarships." We can't do that, only the colleges can. It IS our job to help our players out any way we can and that includes sending tape to schools that our kids are interested in (and have a shot at playing) as well as those schools the kid might not know about but still has a chance of playing and getting a degree.

I disagree. If a coach wants to recruit a kid, come by my office and I will talk. my time is has meaning to it. when the season is done, I am on to the next season. college caoches complain all the time how the nfl uses colleges for their own gain. yet colleges do the same to h.s. coaches. my job is to develop players so we can be a successful team. besides, a lot of college recruiters are snake oli salesman. they will tell a kid what he wants to hear but not what he needs to know. ie arkansas.
