I know some colleges give their players test some time before game day to evaluate if they know the gameplan. Do any of you do this in high school and do you find it as a benefit? Any other thoughts would be helpful.
Thanks

I have thought about it with my lineman, my problem I don't work for the school so finding the right time without getting into the HC plans for game day gets tricky.

I have tested players in the past, usually on Wednesday. I found it beneficial, mostly for the younger players (frosh and sophs). Nevertheless, I think it is a good practice for all players, mostly lineman.

i test thursday morning before school to see if the kids know what is going on.
we then use thursday practice to go over the areas which they did not remember well.

we do qb & receiver tests all the time in spring.
qb's go through "qb school" from jan. to beginning of april and tests include both written & video.

I test my OL on Thursday after walk through. I have never had a problem with too many of them failing. The punishment for failure was that the whole line had to stay after the test and go through the gameplan again, and then the individual had to stay and get an extra opportunity for improvement after practice the following Monday. Again, I dont think I ever have this happen in 5 seasons.

What differences did you notice from the line when you started testing them? Less confusion, fewer blown assignments, etc?

i love math teachers who coach or who are just interested in football.
we had a math teacher who looks at the film and figures things out. he does not want to coach any more so he figures out say in this formation, they run this play 93% of the time. it just comes to him so easy.
he loves it, we pay him some money and let him come on the sidelines on friday night. he stays involved and is happy.

I like the idea of testing my players to see what they know, but I'm not going to sacrifice playing a guy who is clearly a better player because he can't remember a stunt. I'll run something else or just take him out for that particular stunt.
