Backstabbing with corrections

You guys are right. My grammar was and is terrible.

As far as backstabbing goes, a similar thing happened to me recently when I was asked to be the Freshman Head Coach.

After a month on the job my Offensive Back Coach was still upset he wasn't offered the job. He started to question the legalities of the hiring process and forced the Athletic Director /Varsity Head Coach to advertise the position and have a committee choose the Head Freshman Coach or OK the Athletic Director/ Varsity Head Coaches decision. My Offensive Back Coach is pushing for Defensive Coordinator to replace me. Both coaches have worked together in the past.

The committee to choose is the Athletic Director/ Varsity Head Coach, Principal, Booster President and a parent, you guessed it my Offensive Back coach !!!

The thing is my Offensive Back Coach has been working to get the job for weeks behind my back and not a word about it from the Athletic Director/Varsity Head Coach. I heard all of this from my loyal Offensive Back Coach. He says" They are having second thoughts" The Athletic Director/ Varsity Coach neglected to inform me about these new developments.

The Athletic Director/Varsity Head Coach returns my calls me a few days later and assures me the job is mine and says to fire the two backstabbers.

Now I'm thinking what about the Athletic Director/Varsity Head Coach? Who's watching my back?Why do I hear it from my assistants first? Where will he be when I need him when crap really hits the fan?


This is a stipend but might as well be volunteer position that in the past had the previous years graduated Varsity players run the team with little or no football taught. Thats why I agreed to this job in the first place.

The unfortunate thing is my boys will go to this school. Can I allow them to play for a Athletic Director/ Varsity Head Coach with such little integrity?

I really dont understand all this freshmen head coach.. hiring firing stuff.. Our HC is the football head coach.. He says the day before our first JV game.. umm.. Thurman you go call the offense and so and so.. you call the defense.. If anyone has any problems.. you're in charge.. And we do have a freshmen staff, but none of them have any more authority over the other.. If there was going to be any firing going on, then it would be the HC, not the freshmen anything..

What do the rest of the administration say about this? If you do not have their support, you could be in trouble. If you lose your job, I smell a lawsuit....and my brother is a lawyer....SUE EVERYONE involved, and the school. Really not abouot money....just the principle of fighting back!

My experiences are this.,..

at one school as the head frosh coach, i was appointed an assistant and had no say over who i worked with...two years later, i got to interview and choose my own assistant with the approval of the AD., i dont think the varsity head coach even interviewed him...

at another school, two co-head coaches shared the jr high/frosh duties until i was hired..i had to interview them, keep one and let the other go....never a nice way to really let someone down. I did offer one of them a volunteer position as qb coach due to his limited availablility. (he was a former hs qb).. i did what i could to explain my rationale for choosing one over the other, it came down to availability adn philosophy...but i made it clear, i was the HEAD JR HIGH COACH. someone has to have the final say on decisions...in your case, i dont understand why the AD/HC doesnt just fire these guys who dont support his decision to hire you as frosh head coach??? if you have the power to get rid of them, do it.

WHAT can you control?
#1 - I was wondering the same thing.....doesn't sound good. But then again, any situation with little or no communication is not good.

#2 - That's a decision only you are qualified to make

Throw out in conversation that you have talked to your attorney....see them scramble and back pedal! I did this once with aparent who was bad mouthing me cuz junior did not play as much as he thought. Started throwing out the Knight has them taking steroids. etc etc.

Brought up the word attorney...ended it quickly!

Are the AD and HC the same guy ?

I have to tell you this, you need to let it go and get out. This guy is a political animal, not a head football coach. NO ONE HAS YOUR BACK AT THIS SCHOOL. Either no one is in charge or no one has the guts to pull the plug on the backstabbers.

The AD/HC is an idiot. Smart people get rid of backstabbing "locker room lawyers". If someone has the nerve to do it to you, then that person will eventually have the nerve to do it to the HC and the AD. "If someone gossips to you then they will gossip about you".
