We usually play a game this week to have a bye week in the middle of the season., which back before they invented color was the 'big' jamboree weekend that lead up to the beginning of the season.
So, all the teams that go for this week's game get 1 less week of practice/scrimmages/install/etc....
So we into this game with a back up QB and a good returning group on defense. Plus probably the best kicker in the state as a Junior, and end up winning 26-25.
Typical 1st game screw ups on both sides, but the game comes down to a barn burner. We win with less than 10 seconds on the clock with a FG. Kicker makes 4/5 with a 51 yarder and 41 yarder..... the game winner was from PAT distance and we could have tried to punch it in if not for his accuracy.
BUT, while we won the game the other team lost the game on Special Teams.....
- we blocked a PAT
- another PAT bad snap and we tackle the holder
- we punt a high hanger that falls and bounces for no particular distance, and the returner does the 'bluff to grab' the ball but actually tries to grab the ball with 3 of our guys right around the ball and we end up getting the ball... the most stupid play ever.
